Obituary

 

Gary D. Jackson, 71, of Hoople, ND passed away Sunday, October 11, 2020 on Sanford on Broadway, Fargo, ND.

     Gary Donald Jackson was born March 15, 1949 at Drayton, ND to Donald and Shirley (Johnson) Jackson. He grew up and attended school in Cavalier, graduating from Cavalier High School in 1967. Gary then attended Mayville State College where he graduated with his Degree in Education. After teaching school in Dunseith, ND for two years. Gary attended UND for his Masters Degree in Educational Administration, Social Studies/Social Science and Psychology after his time in Dunseith. He taught school and was principle in the Valley School District, Hoople, ND until 2010. From 2010 to 2014 he taught in the Valley-Edinburg School District. For the past seven years he has been a teacher in the North Border School District. Gary had a love of learning; he was always working to better himself as a person and educator. He loved to be active in the school districts in which he worked. He would referee junior high basketball and football games, announce and do play by play at every North Border home game, and coach any sport that needed him, track and field being his favorite.

     Gary had a passion for his grandsons like no other and was at every activity they were involved in. He was both of their biggest fan. Gary was a man of few words, but the words he spoke were always well thought out and impactful.

     On June 19, 1971, Gary married Ruth Markel at the Methodist Church in Hoople, ND. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; children: Marcia Halldorson, Walhalla, ND and Aaron Jackson, Hoople, ND; grandsons: William and Marcus Halldorson; his sisters: Jackie (Tom) Douville, Neche, ND and Linda (John) Horgan, Mesa, AZ.

     Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters: Jeri Brown and Karen Berard.
